A day in the life of our farm
Ever wondered what it is like to wake up to birdsong and spend your day among animals in the North Wales countryside? Here is a day in the life on our farm in Llannefydd.
Ever wondered what it's like to wake up to birdsong, watch the mist roll over green hills, and spend your day among animals? Welcome to a day in the life on our farm in beautiful Llannefydd, North Wales — where the pace is slower, the air is fresher, and every day brings something new.
We're a working cattle and sheep farm spread across 100 acres of rolling countryside, and right now, we're in the heart of calving season — one of the most exciting (and busiest!) times of year. Life on our fourth generation Welsh farm is full of muddy boots, gentle creatures, and the occasional dash after a rogue chicken.
Morning: Sunrise and sheepdogs
The day starts early, often before sunrise. The first to stir are usually our three trusty Kelpie sheepdogs, Ted, Roa and their daughter, Nel. They're full of energy and always ready to round up the sheep and cows — or just bounce through the fields like they own the place, which, to be fair, they probably think they do.
As we check on the sheep and new lambs in the fields, the dogs are by our side, always watching, always working. There's nothing quite like the sight of sheep grazing peacefully with the early light pouring over the hills — it's pure magic.
Mid-morning: Calving checks
Right now, calving season means our mornings are filled with checking on our pregnant cows, offering support where it's needed, and welcoming new arrivals. Each calf is a little miracle, and while it can be tiring work, it's one of the most rewarding parts of farm life.
Guests soon to stay in our glamping pods might even hear the gentle lowing of the cows in the distance or spot a newborn calf wobbling its first steps. Don't worry — you'll be close enough to enjoy the sights and sounds, but far enough away for a peaceful night's sleep.
Afternoon: Tractor time and silage season
The hum of the tractor is a familiar soundtrack to life on the farm, and you'll often spot the farmer out in the fields, especially at this time of year. We've just finished harvesting the silage — a big job that means our animals will be well-fed through the winter months.
Of course, there's still plenty of daily jobs to get on with — from feeding the cattle to moving sheep to fresh pasture and fixing something or other. The chickens always make sure they're not forgotten either, clucking away and following us around the yard like noisy little shadows and laying their eggs in the most awkward spots.
Evening: Sunset strolls and quiet moments
As the sun dips low, the pace starts to slow. The animals are fed and settled, the sheepdogs curl up for a well-earned rest, and we might finally take a moment to breathe it all in.
It's the perfect time for a quiet stroll — and if you're staying with us, we always recommend wandering the trails around the farm at golden hour. The light is soft, the views are endless, and the stillness is something special.
Life on the farm is full of early mornings, muddy hands, and unforgettable moments. Whether you're here for a weekend escape or a longer retreat, we invite you to share a slice of this countryside rhythm with us. From the cheerful chickens to the curious calves, there's always something happening — and always a warm welcome waiting.
